What is a Mothers' Center?

A Mothers' Center is a community group established and operated by mothers. Mothers meet to support and learn from each other, as well as from community professionals. Programs at these centers generally focus around peer discussion groups, and also often include drop-in time, play groups, 'Mommy & Me' classes and informative lectures and workshops.

Most mothers involved in a Center have joined in order to feel less isolated, to validate the importance of mothering, to discuss parenting issues and child development, to connect to their communities and to experience a child-friendly environment.

Local mothers have started each center currently in our network. You can do it too! To order the "How to Start A Mothers' Center" handbook, send a $5 check to the NAMC, 64 Division Avenue, Levittown, New York 11756.
