"Instantly, I felt connected. I saw moms who were in the same stage of life, also needing assistance and affirmation Not only did I find answers, I felt wanted and needed. I made friends. True friends. My kids made friends. Others valued my opinion as a mom."
NAMC Receives Grants from United Way and Long Island Fund For Women and Girls
The NAMC is please to be piloting two programs that will be models for similar efforts nationwide in the future.
United Way of Long Island Sucess By Six - granted the NAMC, in collaboration with Family Place Libraries, funding to pilot Mothers' Center discussion groups in public libraries. This will bring our signature groups to library patrons in 12 libraries in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. While experienced and specially trained Mothers' Center facilitators will introduce this program in these libraries, the ultimate goal is to encourage library patrons to continue offering groups. The NAMC will connect library patrons to their local Mothers' Center, or where there are no centers nearby, to support them in the creation of a Mothers' Center program in their library. The grant also supports specialized training for librarians hoping to welcome a Mothers' Center program into their facility.
The Long Island Fund for Women and Girls - gave the NAMC a grant to collaborate with the Postpartum Resource Center of New York to offer postpartum discussion groups. These groups will be facilitated by trained Mothers' Center facilitators who received specialized advanced training in postpartum mood issues.
