"Instantly, I felt connected. I saw moms who were in the same stage of life, also needing assistance and affirmation... Not only did I find answers, I felt wanted and needed. I made friends. True friends. My kids made friends. Others valued my opinion as a mom."
Saturday, October 20, 2007 ~ NAMC Participates as Contributing Organization for Domestic Violence Forum.

Women in NAACP, NYS Conference and Economic Oppurtunity Commission of Nassau County will host their first Forum on Domestic Violence, at the Westbury Memorial Public Library, 445 Jefferson Street, Westbury, New York, from
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In the United States, 20% of violent crimes experienced by women are cases of intimate partner violence, as is the 3% experienced by men. According to national data (DOJ/BJS 05), there are 450,000 incidents of domestic violence reported annually in New York State; more than 90,000 individual cases reported on Long Island alone. A day of education to introduce preventive services to the public and raise awareness of domestic violence will also include a continental breakfast, and a host of community and civic organizations will be on site to offer information and assistance.

Dr. Nellie Taylor-Walthrust, Director of Outreach Services for The Leeds Place of North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, will be the moderator for the panel of public service groups working on behalf of victims of domestic violence. Reverend Anita Kennedy, Director of the Downstate Healthy Start Program of Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau, will serve as the moderator for a panel consisting of survivors. The Women in NAACP, have also invited organizations to support the Bridging Banners initiative. Hanging a banner at the October 20th Domestic Violence Forum, will create one unified voice against domestic violence.
