NAMC Special Programs

Mothers' Center programs create a community of support, both emotional and physical, for mothers and families. They nurture the nurturers through the postpartum and post-adoption period, as well as their subsequent growth as they rise to the challenges that parenthood adds to their lives. In addition to community centers, the NAMC offers:

A workplace program that gives working parents an opportunity to share parenting information, find resources, and form relationships. Components of the program include:
  • support groups addressing issues such as the adjustment to parenthood; balancing responsibilities as a parent, an employee & a person too; building a successful relationship with your child's school; latchkey kids; and adolescents
  • training for group facilitators which includes group skills, listening skills, consensus-building skills and parenting information allowing employers to utilize in-house facilitators to continue the program
  • on-going support and consultation for company facilitators for turnkey programming.
This program has been successfully implemented at the FBI headquarters in NYC as well as EAB in Uniondale, NY.

This special program is aimed at easing the isolation of mothers coping with difficult life situations (including near homeless women living in transitional housing and teen moms in an alternative school setting.) To provide these mothers with a beneficial experience, the NAMC works with various agencies to develop mothers' groups for clients who often have no support system and limited positive role modeling for parenting. Past funders of this program include CMP Foundation and Bishop John McGann Caring Fund.

Mothers and their 11 - 13 year old daughters come together to develop more positive self-images, build healthier relationships, and move from a passive to a more active role in their own lives. Funding has been provided by the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
