“Mother Denied Aid Shoots Children, Self”

So reads a very small headline in today’s Washington Post. The brief item states that a 38-year-old Texan mother of two was “unable to qualify for food stamps for months.” She walked into the state welfare office, initiating a seven hour standoff with authorities, during which she shot her 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. The she killed herself.

A spokesperson for the welfare office said the mother “didn’t submit enough information.”

Perhaps they feel like they have enough information now?

‘Til next time,
