Breastfeeding Support: The Newman Breastfeeding Clinic & Institute has a free forum where women can write/ask questions regarding their breastfeeding concerns. Their staff responds to all questions very promptly and there are excellent handouts and videos to download.

Army of Women The Love/Avon Army of Women is a partnership between the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Avon Foundation and offers a revolutionary new opportunity for YOU to partner with research scientists to move us beyond a cure. The Army of Women is seeking to recruit one million women nationwide to help researchers learn what causes breast cancer and move beyond a cure to prevention. Childbirth Connection Childbirth Connection is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1918 as Maternity Center Association. Their mission is to improve the quality of maternity care through research, education, advocacy and policy. Childbirth Connection promotes safe, effective and satisfying evidence-based maternity care and is a voice for the needs and interests of childbearing families.

 

Friends For Life Foundation Mission is to aid those who are breast cancer survivors and their caregivers in a social atmosphere which provides nurturing support, understanding and friendship, as well as encouraging a common bond. They provide support to those currently in treatment, along with their families, in a warm, intimate atmosphere, providing informal discussions and lectures on a range of related topics, including the psycho-social impact of breast cancer on the family, health, nutrition and care giving. Friends For Life Foundation focuses on the following services:  Scholarships, donated meals, babysitting services, cleaning services and exercise programs. Postpartum Support International (PSI) :Many women are not prepared for the wide range of emotions they may experience after childbirth. They often feel sadness, anger, anxiety, or a sense of inadequacy. The important thing to remember is that the symptoms are temporary and treatable.

 

Postpartum Resource Center of NY: The Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. is a self-help organization established to provide emotional support, educational information and healthcare and support group referrals to mothers suffering from prenatal and postpartum depression (PPD).

Mothers Online Networks

International Mothers Network

The International Mothers Network (IMN) is the first ever, global consortium of motherhood organizations. The vision is that the network will lead to a more mother-centred world by bringing together diverse mother groups to work toward influencing public discussion as well as exploring alternate economic and societal structures. The IMN will provide a sense of community, promote public awareness and affect change.

Mothers & More Mothers & More is a network for mothers who are – by choice or circumstance – altering their participation in the paid workplace over the course of their active parenting years.

 

Mommies Network The Mommies Network is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping moms find support and friendship in their local community. They were founded April, 2005 and currently have 71 communities in 21 states and one Canadian province with over 19,000 members. In 2007 they opened their first "dads-only" communities to support the unique needs of fathers.

Research on Mothering

Association for Research on Mothering (ARM) - ARM, founded in 1988 by Dr. Andrea O'Reilly, is the first international organization devoted specifically to the topic of mothering and motherhood. ARM's mandate is to provide a forum for the discussion and dissemination of research on motherhood and to establish a community of individuals and institutions working and researching in the area of mothering and motherhood. ARM now has more than five hundred members in more than twenty countries. Members include scholars, writers, activists, social workers, midwives, nurses, therapists, lawyers, teachers, politicians, parents, students and artists. ARM hosts an annual conference in October, as well as other events, including a feminist mothers' group, Mother Outlaws. ARM houses the Journal of the Association for Research on Mothering and Demeter Press, a feminist publisher devoted to books on mothering/motherhood.

Children’s Health and Wellness North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center (Regional) A leading children's mental health agency on Long Island providing a range of mental health services for children, youth, and families.

 

NYU Child Study Center The Center was founded in 1997 to improve the treatment of child psychiatric disorders through scientific practice, research, and education, and to eliminate the stigma of being or having a child with a psychiatric disorder. They have made major strides towards fulfilling this mission: their research, clinical, educational, and community services have expanded and grown in new directions. In the face of increased threats to our security and safety, their work has highlighted the importance of strengthening resilience in all children as a preventive strategy to enhance and protect their psychological well-being. The NYU Child Study Center publishes the Parent Letter which provides parents with tips and advice on special topics relevant to teenagers and school-age children.

Military Families

THE SOLDIERS PROJECT is a private, non-profit group of volunteer licensed psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, and marriage and family therapists that was established to provide FREE confidential counseling to military personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their loved ones (including girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, children, parents and grandparents). MedEdPPD.org: MedEdPPD.org is a professional education, peer-reviewed Web site developed with the support of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The site has two objectives: first, to further the education of primary care providers (pediatricians, family physicians, obstetricians, psychiatrists, nurses, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, social workers) who treat women who have or are at risk for postpartum depression (PPD); and second, to provide information for women with PPD and their friends and family members.
