I am a gradual-change-kind-of-girl.
I don’t typically step out of line suddenly. I take calculated risks that I often ponder on over and over (AND OVER) before actually deciding which foot to place first on my chosen path.
I have, for all intents and purposes, become a top notch “change predictor,” able to recognize even the slightest stir in the winds of change.
I used to think life changes were controllable.
When things went wrong—when an unmanageable storm swept through life—I assumed that the storm was always created by my own actions. However, eventually… storm after storm (after out-of-control storm), I came to the belief that:
Change, is as irrepressible as Mother Nature herself.

And the next best thing to controlling change, was to better forecast its likelihood. So, consequently, I’ve become pretty good at noticing my own change indicators, things like:
- Consecutive days filled with chaos which are not offset by moments of rest
- Subtle hints that something which used to work SO WELL, isn’t as effective
- Awareness of the beginning stages of boredom (indicating a personal need for a new challenge)
Change is scary and unsettling and filled with the unknown… yet I’ve noticed again and again (AND AGAIN) that when I brace for change and take it knowingly head-on (while also often enlisting the support of friends and family), I can more easily ride out the storm.
Just like everyone else, throughout my life I’ve had to do a lot of adjusting to accommodate the ever-blowing winds of change. Those winds, they Just. Don’t. End. (I get that.) So, I continue to watch, listen and work at recognizing my own change indicators… hoping to make the damage of the storm (if possible) less devastating.
Yes, I am admittedly cautions—more of a gradual-change-kind-of-girl…
What are you?
Leave a Comment: What type of approach do you take to life changes and transitions? How do you work to overcome the fear and anxiety often brought on by a pending change or life adjustment? Do you do a good job of recognizing your own “change indicators?”
