Oct 15 2008: Employer of Choice vs. Bottom Line Results Article

In today’s job market, employee recruitment and retention are very real challenges in any industry. Fierce competition requires that companies put greater focus on differentiating themselves than ever before. Employers know that attracting and retaining skilled and knowledgeable talent is a key strategy to long term business success and growth.

In this panel sponsored by NAMC and Administaff, Catherine Wright, Development Director for the NAMC opened the discussion with very sobering points pertaining to what businesses today are facing:

  • There has been a lot of discussion in the last couple of years focusing on “the brain drain” on Long Island and how to keep talented and skilled people - especially young people - from moving away.
  • Many organizations have to tighten their belts and do more with less. As a result, it has become increasingly necessary to find ways to motivate the “lean and mean” workforce that’s left and keep their morale up so the bottom line doesn’t sink down.
  • As the economy becomes more and more shaky, more people feel lucky to have a job and employers have to be more proactive about keeping the people they have on staff feeling as good about, motivated and productive in their jobs as possible.

Our panelists did a stellar job of sharing their perspectives on what business owners, managers and employees can do to empower themselves to achieve success even during these challenging times.
